About The Position

Hinterland Group is hiring an HR Compliance Specialist to ensure the organization adheres to federal, state, and local employment laws, manages regulatory risks, and maintains legally compliant employee handbooks and records. The position is also responsible for benefits and benefits compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Legal Studies, or a related discipline.
• 3 to 5+ years of operational HR or compliance experience.
• Deep knowledge of employment laws.
• High attention to detail.
• Strong data analysis abilities.
• Proficiency with HRIS or compliance tracking systems.

Nice To Haves

• Professional certifications such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and update employee handbooks, standard operating procedures, and company policies to reflect current labor legislation.
• Lead internal audits of I-9 documentation, worker classifications (exempt/non-exempt), record retention, and payroll practices.
• Monitor changes in federal, state, and local regulations, including EEOC, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, and OSHA requirements, and coordinate implementation.
• Partner with Learning & Development to develop staff training, file regulatory reports such as EEO or census data, and manage remediation plans for compliance gaps.
• Assist with internal investigations regarding policy breaches and liaise with legal counsel or external auditors as needed.
• Manage benefits and benefits compliance.
