About The Position

Starling Community Services (formerly Lutherwood) is a progressive, not-for-profit health and social service organization that strengthens people's lives by providing mental health, employment, and housing services to more than 22,530 people annually in Waterloo Region and Wellington County. This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program (CSJ). CSJ is an initiative to help young people between the ages of 15 - 30, particularly those facing barriers to employment, to get the information and gain the skills, work experience, and abilities they need to transition successfully in the labour market.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with the local housing market, Residential Tenancies Act and community is an asset.
  • Exceptional person-centered customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational, oral/written communication, time management skills, and an attention to detail.
  • Able to work effectively with vulnerable populations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • International students and other temporary residents of Canada are not eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Welcomes and engages individuals seeking housing services, ensuring a respectful and supportive person-centered approach.
  • Assists participants to use computers to conduct internet-based housing searched and/or housing related research.
  • Identifies housing services gaps and collaborates with Housing Services team to explore and implement potential solutions.
  • Works closely with Housing Advisors and Housing Services teams to determine the most appropriate housing supports based on participant needs.
