About The Position

At Stony Brook Medicine, Housekeepers perform custodial and housekeeping tasks, including requisitioning linens and household supplies and cleaning, caring for, and maintaining assigned buildings or areas. Work areas may include patient rooms, administrative areas, study areas, classrooms, meeting rooms, and laboratories. This is a float position and may involve work throughout the facility. Housekeepers may oversee lower-level cleaning personnel and provide ongoing training on cleanliness, communication, and customer service skills.

Requirements

• Be physically able to perform the tasks of the position.
• Be able to communicate orally and in writing to exchange information.
• Be able to read, write, speak, and understand verbal communication at a basic level.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience working in a hospital setting and/or in the hospital industry.
• Excellent intrapersonal and time-management skills, attention to detail, and ability to work with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Remove hazardous articles from floors, furniture, and equipment and place them in designated receptacles or appropriate locations.
• Wash floors, corridors, stairwells, walls, partitions, and interior windows using cleaning implements.
• Vacuum and wax floors and shampoo carpets using manual or mechanical equipment.
• Scrub and clean lavatories using hand-operated equipment and detergents.
• Wash light fixtures and replace light bulbs using appropriate equipment such as ladders.
• Polish wood and metal fixtures and equipment.
• Requisition and dispense linens, household supplies, and equipment, and maintain appropriate inventories.
• Report building repair needs and recommend repair or replacement of furniture, building fixtures, and household equipment to a supervisor.
• Oversee lower-level cleaning personnel.
• Provide ongoing training on cleanliness, communication, and customer service skills.
• Work throughout the facility as assigned in this float position.
