Housekeepers provide cleaning and sanitizing services for resident areas, common areas, and staff areas, with resident areas as the priority. They use appropriate chemicals and tools to clean, sanitize, dust, mop, sweep, and vacuum facility spaces, including resident rooms and bathrooms, dining rooms, common areas, shower rooms, offices, meeting rooms, and storage areas. They follow manufacturer guidelines for chemical use and ensure chemicals are properly labeled and stored. Cleaning tools must be locked and stored safely after each use. Housekeepers stock paper supplies in facility restrooms, keep soap and sanitizer dispensers stocked and working, remove trash and replace can liners, and clean up spills or messes as they occur. They report maintenance issues in the log or, when an issue poses immediate danger, to the Maintenance Supervisor or Administrator. They may unstop toilets, contribute to resident care planning, and assist with putting batteries in remotes or plugging call lights and beds back in. Housekeepers are expected to represent the facility professionally and positively in the community, communicate courteously and effectively with residents, families, coworkers, and vendors, and maintain the confidentiality of department, resident, and employee information, communications, and documentation in compliance with HIPAA. They attend required in-service training and clock in and out for all working and training hours; working off the clock is not permitted.
