About The Position

We are a busy family of four living in Austin, Texas, with two daughters aged 7 and 9. Our household is dynamic, balancing a physician's schedule, a growing tech company, school activities, and frequent family visits. We are seeking a proactive and organized Household Manager & Family Assistant to help maintain a sense of calm and consistency behind the scenes. Our home is a welcoming space for family and friends, and we value organization, order, and a well-cared-for environment. We already have professional cleaning and landscaping services, so this role focuses on the day-to-day details that keep our home running smoothly. The ideal candidate is independent, takes initiative, and enjoys creating systems to improve daily life. You should be comfortable making decisions, anticipating needs, and contributing to a calm and organized home. This part-time role involves approximately 15-18 hours per week, spread over three days: Tuesdays (1:00 PM - 6:00 PM), Wednesdays (1:00 PM - 7:00 PM), and Thursdays (2:00 PM - 6:00 PM). The schedule may evolve to include occasional morning drop-offs and additional pickup days.

Requirements

  • Maintain a smoke-free environment.
  • Reliable transportation, clean driving record, and valid driver's license required.
  • CPR and First Aid certified, or willing to obtain upon employment.
  • Up to date on recommended vaccinations in line with American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines (including Tdap, MMR, Hepatitis A/B, COVID-19, and annual influenza), subject to applicable legal accommodations.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Wash, fold, and put away laundry for family members and household linens.
  • Remove, launder, and remake beds with fresh sheets on a rotating schedule.
  • Iron, steam, and provide special care for garments as needed.
  • Maintain a tidy and well-stocked laundry room.
  • Involve children in age-appropriate laundry tasks to support independence.
  • Assist with school pickups on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and transportation to and from after-school activities.
  • Support children in their after-school routines, empowering them to manage chores and homework independently.
  • Assist with morning drop-offs as needed if a parent is traveling for work.
  • Create and maintain functional, sustainable, and adaptable household organization systems.
  • Perform daily resets and tidying, including surface wiping, dishwasher loading/unloading, trash removal, and vacuuming high-traffic areas.
  • Assist with seasonal clothing swaps and organization of children's clothing and gear.
  • Coordinate and prepare items for donation.
  • Manage proactive upkeep such as changing batteries in smoke detectors, light bulbs, etc.
  • Care for indoor plants.
  • Ensure outdoor and patio areas are clean and ready for use.
  • Manage and maintain grocery ordering via platforms like Amazon Fresh.
  • Wash, chop, and prepare fresh fruit and vegetables for snacks.
  • Prepare 2-3 meals per week, with potential to grow.
  • Occasionally prepare school lunches.
  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness before and after all meal prep sessions.
  • Manage household supply lists and maintain inventory levels.
  • Restock pantry, fridge, and household supplies.
  • Handle returns, dry cleaning, and gift shopping.
  • Sort mail, bring in packages, and break down boxes.
  • Maintain visibility into the family's weekly schedule to stay one step ahead.
  • Assist with travel logistics for extended family as needed.
  • Coordinate packing and unpacking for children's travel.
  • Prepare the home for hosting events and guests.
