About The Position

We are a busy family of four in Austin, Texas, with two daughters aged 7 and 9. Our household is dynamic, balancing a physician's schedule, a growing tech company, school, and frequent family visits. We are seeking a proactive and organized Household Manager & Family Assistant to help bring a sense of calm and consistency to our home. This role involves supporting the day-to-day operations of our household, maintaining organization, and assisting with family needs, including meal preparation. We already have professional cleaning and landscaping services, so this role focuses on the behind-the-scenes details that keep our home running smoothly and feeling welcoming.

Requirements

  • Maintain a smoke-free environment.
  • Reliable transportation, clean driving record, and valid driver's license.
  • CPR and First Aid certified, or willing to obtain upon employment.
  • Up to date on recommended vaccinations in line with American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines (including Tdap, MMR, Hepatitis A/B, COVID-19, and annual influenza), subject to applicable legal accommodations.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Proactive, organized, and naturally take ownership of work.
  • Ability to manage time well, think a few steps ahead, and find practical solutions.
  • Comfortable making thoughtful decisions independently.
  • Pride in anticipating needs, following through, and becoming a trusted household support.

Responsibilities

  • Wash, fold, and put away laundry for family members and household linens, including removing, laundering, and remaking beds with fresh sheets on a rotating schedule.
  • Iron, steam, and provide special care for garments as needed, and maintain a tidy and well-stocked laundry room.
  • Involve children in age-appropriate laundry tasks to support independence.
  • Assist with school pickups on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and transportation to and from after-school activities.
  • Support children in their after-school routines, empowering them to manage their chores and homework independently.
  • Assist with morning drop-offs as needed if a parent is traveling for work.
  • Create and maintain functional, sustainable, and adaptable household organization systems.
  • Perform daily resets and tidying, including wiping surfaces, loading/unloading the dishwasher, taking out trash, and vacuuming high-traffic areas.
  • Assist with seasonal clothing swaps and organization of children's clothing and gear.
  • Coordinate and prepare items for donation.
  • Manage proactive upkeep such as changing batteries in smoke detectors, light bulbs, and other household items.
  • Care for indoor plants and ensure outdoor and patio areas are clean and ready for use.
  • Manage and maintain grocery ordering via online platforms (family places the final order).
  • Wash, chop, and prepare fresh fruit and vegetables for easy grab-and-go snacks.
  • Prepare 2-3 meals per week, with potential to increase as comfort level evolves.
  • Occasionally prepare school lunches.
  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness before and after all meal prep sessions.
  • Manage household supply lists and maintain a steady inventory rhythm, restocking pantry, fridge, and household supplies as needed.
  • Handle returns, dry cleaning, and gift shopping.
  • Sort mail, bring in packages, and break down boxes.
  • Maintain visibility into the family's weekly schedule to stay one step ahead.
  • Assist with travel logistics for extended family as needed, such as booking flights.
  • Coordinate packing and unpacking for children's travel.
  • Prepare the home for hosting events and guests.
