About The Position

The Salvation Army is seeking a Part Time House Support Worker for Stevenson House in New Westminster. This role involves providing a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors, maintaining documentation, providing laundry services, cleaning, and assisting with resident programming. The House Support Worker will also be responsible for client intake and discharge, monitoring behavior, intervening in crisis situations, providing emotional support and advocacy, distributing funds, and liaising with external agencies. Additionally, the role includes orienting new staff and attending mandatory meetings. The position operates under an averaging agreement and requires adherence to The Salvation Army's mission, vision, values, and code of conduct.

Requirements

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
  • High School Completion
  • Social services Diploma or related Diploma or Degree
  • Minimum one year Experience in frontline social service work
  • Keyboarding/Manual record keeping
  • Lifting/packing clients/residents property/personal effects and engaging in recreational activities.
  • Attentive listening and observation of body language, continuously monitoring the environment, multitasking and reading.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, to meet deadlines and cope with stressful situations.
  • Must be able to list a minimum of 40lbs

Responsibilities

  • Monitors the environment and clients/residents to ensure safety and security; completes regular client/resident status checks and room searches as required
  • Maintains and updates all appropriate documentation (including in-out and incident log books) related to clients/residents and initiates any new documentation
  • Provides laundry service for the shelters and shelter clients
  • Cleans shelter rooms, washrooms, kitchen, lounge and common areas and performs basic building maintenance
  • Complete all reports required by the funder and The Salvation Army
  • Coordinates and facilitates resident programming as required
  • Performs intake and discharge procedures for clients/residents as assigned
  • Monitors appropriate behavior; intervenes in crisis situations, provides emotional support and advocacy as required
  • Distributes funds to residents in accordance with established policies guidelines
  • Engages in the development of inter-personal relationships that promote dignity and respect
  • Liaises with Police, funders, court personnel, community agencies, families, and other staff members
  • Provides orientation to newly hired staff, volunteers, students
  • Attends 4 mandatory in-person staff meetings a year
  • Performs other duties as assigned
