About The Position

The House Manager is responsible for maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for patrons and staff during events. This role involves detailed knowledge of the facility's layout, safety procedures, and alarm systems. The House Manager acts as a central point of communication between front-of-house and backstage staff, coordinates activities, and addresses any arising issues, including emergencies and patron needs. They also assist with volunteer management for merchandise sales and financial processing, ensure adherence to house and safety rules, and manage the post-event closing procedures. A key aspect of this role is representing the Jefferson Center positively to the public.

Requirements

  • Ability to give and receive information in person.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing with volunteers, peers, supervisors, subordinates, and patrons.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in decision-making and to work independently.
  • Ability to manage and supervise volunteers.
  • Ability to navigate stairs.
  • Ability to remain standing for substantial lengths of time.
  • Ability to verbally direct patrons and volunteers.
  • Ability to physically assist patrons if necessary.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Pleasant demeanor and polite attitude toward patrons.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years work experience in customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain detailed knowledge of the hall layout, exits, evacuation procedures, fire code, and safety equipment locations.
  • Maintain working knowledge of building alarm systems and provide this information to staff, volunteers, and patrons.
  • Communicate with front-of-house and backstage staff during productions and coordinate activities.
  • Address contingencies such as custodial concerns, medical emergencies, or patron needs.
  • Assist in the evacuation of the facility in the event of an emergency.
  • Assist in the volunteer staffing of merchandise tables and financial processing at the end of shows.
  • Ensure patrons adhere to all house and safety rules.
  • Assist in clearing the house and releasing volunteers after the event.
  • Lock down areas following the event.
  • Represent Jefferson Center to the public in a pleasant, informed manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
