About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to assist customers in selecting and purchasing merchandise to achieve and maintain established sales goals. The role advises customers on the quality, style, and value of home furnishings, supports the customer experience and sales process, and performs sales, merchandising, recordkeeping, customer service, and store-area maintenance duties. It also involves using the CRM system and other equipment, following company sales and service standards, and upholding Farmers Furniture’s H.O.M.E. values. The employee may assist in other store departments and perform other related duties as needed.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Six months of practical retail sales experience, or an equivalent combination of training, experience, and education providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Ability to review, categorize, prioritize, and analyze data and relate analysis to established standards.
Ability to provide guidance, assistance, or interpretation about procedures and standards.
Ability to operate equipment, machinery, tools, or materials requiring complex and rapid adjustments.
Ability to use a wide range of reference and descriptive information.
Ability to perform arithmetic, calculate decimals and percentages, use fractions, and interpret graphs.
Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions and exercise independent judgment in semi-routine work.
Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity amid changing situations.
Ability to exert moderate physical effort, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and sometimes lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing 12–50 pounds.
Some tasks require the ability to perceive colors or shades, sounds, depth, and visual cues or signals, and to communicate orally.
Some tasks may involve exposure to dirt, dust, temperature extremes, electric currents, or toxic agents or chemicals.

Responsibilities

Maintain sales quotas established in weekly, monthly, and annual store goals.
Advise customers on merchandise quality, style, and value, and help them select appropriate home furnishings.
Develop expertise in customer experience and sales execution to meet customer needs.
Verify prices and ensure each item is accounted for on sales orders.
Calculate applicable sales discounts when preparing sales write-ups.
Prepare or place merchandise tags, especially for sales promotions.
Set up advertising displays and arrange merchandise to promote sales; stock shelves, counters, tables, and other sales areas.
Load customer pickups as needed and obtain customer signatures on pickup receipts.
Attempt to resolve customer complaints about damaged or incorrect deliveries.
Make sales prospecting calls using telemarketing techniques and maintain accurate customer and activity records in the CRM system.
Handle customer inquiries in person and by telephone.
Attend scheduled sales meetings.
Inspect and maintain assigned sales areas for cleanliness and orderliness; clean shelves, counters, and floor displays.
Assist customers with credit applications and answer questions about company or store policies and procedures.
Arrange delivery or pickup times with customers and document them appropriately.
Compose and send thank-you notes to customers.
Keep sales records.
Receive, review, process, respond to, distribute, forward, and file documentation and reports, and take other appropriate action.
Operate a personal computer, calculator, copy machines, telephone, and other equipment as needed.
Follow Display Standards, Customer Service Counter Standards, and Telephone Standards.
Comply with Farmers Sales Floor Standards and actively engage customers through the S.W.I.N.G. program.
Enter assigned customer service issues in PQA.
Uphold and promote the company’s H.O.M.E. values.
Assist in other store departments as required and perform other related duties.
