About The Position

CBC North in Iqaluit is looking for a Host for our weekend morning radio programs. Reporting to the Managing Editor, the Host is responsible for finding, researching, preparing and presenting interviews, recorded and live program segments, weather, public announcements and other information. You will host the Nunavut/Nunavik weekend morning programs in Inuktitut and English. The work can include presentation of news on-air in Inuktitut. In addition to the weekend duties, you may also assist other programs by providing material and performing backup up hosting for other programs. This is a full-time position with a 5-day work week that includes Saturdays and Sundays. You ensure that CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful, and appeal to the communities we serve. You’re interested in creating a wide range of content for our radio, television, digital and social platforms. You’re not afraid to take creative risks, and you inspire others to do the same. You enjoy working closely with other staff. You understand the diverse and changing population across Nunavut and Nunavik, and the importance of reflecting our communities in our content. You live and promote an inclusive and respectful work culture. You understand the diversity of people and places in Inuit Nunangat. You have a strong desire to assist in the on-going promotion and use of Inuit language and culture.

Requirements

  • Excellent on-air presentation skills.
  • Excellent Inuktitut skills.
  • A strong understanding of Inuit culture and northern issues.
  • Mature, positive attitude and an excellent ability to contribute to a team environment.
  • Good interview and research skills.
  • Good skills in English.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet daily deadlines.
  • Willingness to work early mornings.
  • An acceptable combination of education and work experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous on-air experience in radio or television would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Operating broadcast and computer equipment to present programs on air.
  • Participating in community relations activities to promote the CBC.
  • Maintaining an appropriate level of communication with members of the audience.
  • Performing incidental technical functions necessary to ensure the smooth and continuous functioning of the station.
  • Archive programs and program scripts and lineups.
