About The Position

At Black Bear Diners, the Host/Cashier/Busser is part of the Server Support Team and helps ensure guests have a positive, friendly experience. The role includes welcoming and seating guests, managing waits, assisting servers, keeping restaurant areas clean, handling takeout orders and payments, and completing assigned side work. Team members must comply with company appearance and uniform standards and be available to help as needed to support smooth restaurant operations.

• Ability to climb step stools for cleaning projects as needed.
• Ability to work around cold or below-freezing temperatures and high heat, including walk-in refrigerators, freezers, and ovens.

Responsibilities

• Accommodate special seating requests whenever possible.
• Greet arriving guests warmly and promptly.
• Seat guests according to their preferences while balancing customer flow across service stations.
• When immediate seating is unavailable, record guest names and party sizes, provide estimated wait times, and call guests when tables become available.
• Offer menus when seating guests and inspect tables for proper presentation and completeness.
• Relay messages to servers as needed.
• Maintain clean entrance, lobby, dining room, and restrooms.
• Assist servers with maintaining and stocking service stations.
• Transport bus tubs of dirty dishes to the dish room when needed.
• Clean and promptly reset tables, chairs, booths, and surrounding carpet.
• Take takeout food and beverage orders and enter them into the point-of-sale system.
• Process payments correctly and efficiently and close checks.
• Thank guests for visiting and invite them to return.
• Perform assigned side work at the start and end of each shift.
• Fill in as needed to support efficient restaurant operations, as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor.
• Comply with company appearance and uniform standards.
