About The Position

At Black Bear Diners, a family-friendly restaurant concept serving homemade food and friendly service since 1995, the Host/Cashier/Busser is part of the Server Support Team and helps ensure guests have a positive, friendly experience. The role accommodates seating requests, greets and seats guests, manages wait lists, presents menus, and helps maintain clean and well-stocked dining and service areas. It also includes taking takeout orders, processing payments, completing side work, and assisting wherever needed to support smooth restaurant operations. The position requires compliance with company appearance and uniform standards and the ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Physical duties include extended standing, frequent reaching and bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, cleaning, and exposure to hot and cold temperatures.

Requirements

Ability to remain calm under pressure and multitask.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to stand for long periods and perform frequent reaching, manual tasks, walking, bending, squatting, and stooping.
Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to climb step stools for cleaning projects as needed.
Ability to work around cold or below-freezing temperatures and high heat, including walk-in refrigerators, freezers, and ovens.

Responsibilities

Accommodate special seating requests whenever possible.
Greet arriving guests warmly and promptly.
Seat guests according to their preferences and the flow of customers in service stations.
When seating is limited, record guest names and party sizes, provide estimated wait times, and call guests when tables become available.
Offer guests a menu upon seating and check tables for proper presentation and completeness.
Relay messages to servers as needed.
Maintain clean entrances, lobbies, dining rooms, and restrooms.
Assist servers with maintaining and stocking service stations.
Transport bus tubs with dirty dishes to the dish room when needed.
Clean and reset tables promptly, including chairs, booths, and surrounding carpet.
Take food and beverage orders from guests requesting takeout and enter orders into the point-of-sale system.
Process payments correctly and efficiently and close checks.
Thank guests for visiting and invite them to return.
Perform assigned side work at the start and end of each shift.
Fill in as needed to support smooth and efficient restaurant operations, as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor.
Comply with company appearance and uniform standards.
