About The Position

At Black Bear Diners, a family-friendly restaurant concept serving homemade food and friendly service since 1995, the Host/Cashier/Busser is part of the Server Support Team and helps ensure guests have a positive, friendly experience. The role includes welcoming and seating guests, managing wait lists, assisting with dining-room cleanliness and service stations, handling takeout orders and payments, and helping restaurant operations run smoothly. The position requires compliance with company appearance and uniform standards and flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Duties may be changed or reassigned by management, including to accommodate reasonable needs.

Requirements

• Patience, a good sense of humor, and enthusiasm.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and multitask.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to stand for long periods and perform frequent reaching, manual dexterity, walking, bending, squatting, and stooping.
• Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and climb step stools as needed.
• Ability to work in environments with cold or below-freezing temperatures and high heat.

Responsibilities

• Accommodate special seating requests whenever possible.
• Greet arriving guests warmly and promptly.
• Seat guests according to their preferences while balancing customer flow among service stations.
• When seating is limited, record guest names and party sizes, provide estimated wait times, and call guests when tables become available.
• Offer menus upon seating and inspect tables for proper presentation and completeness.
• Relay messages to servers as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness of the entrance, lobby, dining room, and restrooms.
• Assist servers with maintaining and stocking service stations.
• Transport bus tubs of dirty dishes to the dish room when needed.
• Clean and reset tables promptly, including chairs, booths, and surrounding carpet.
• Take takeout food and beverage orders and enter them into the point-of-sale system.
• Process payments correctly and efficiently and close checks.
• Thank guests for visiting and invite them to return.
• Perform assigned side work at the beginning and end of each shift.
• Fill in as needed to support smooth and efficient restaurant operations, as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor.
• Comply with company appearance and uniform standards.
