About The Position

The Hospital Reference Test Clerk performs clinical specimen accessioning, sample sorting, and data entry in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment onsite at a client office. The role supports laboratory testing by preparing specimens, ensuring accurate patient and specimen information, resolving issues, and coordinating the shipment of samples to appropriate testing facilities. The position is based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and works Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with rotating Saturdays.

Requirements

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
At least 1 year of experience in laboratory work, accessioning, data entry, or manufacturing.
Comfort handling biological specimens.
Ability to accurately identify specimens.
Experience working in a team environment.
Strong data-entry and organizational skills.
High attention to detail.
Proficiency in MS Office.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
Ability to pass a standardized color blindness test.

Nice To Haves

At least 1 year of medical or patient-facing healthcare experience.

Responsibilities

Prepare laboratory specimens for analysis and testing.
Communicate effectively with client office staff.
Research, troubleshoot, and resolve customer and specimen problems.
Meet department activity and production goals.
Enter patient information accurately and in a timely manner.
Accurately identify and label specimens.
Pack and ship specimens to the proper testing facilities.
Review requisitions to ensure samples are prepared and update missing items.
Perform spinning, freezing, splitting, and other special services as needed based on the client.
