About The Position

The Hospital Driver works in the Lab Couriers department at Trinity Health Ann Arbor. The role drives a hospital vehicle on scheduled and unscheduled trips to and from outpatient laboratory facilities, physicians’ offices, and other locations to pick up and deliver laboratory specimens, reports, and supplies. The driver follows specimen-handling procedures, schedules, checklists, and client-specific instructions to complete deliveries thoroughly and efficiently, and contacts a Manager if a pickup or delivery is not completed. The role also handles deliveries for other hospital departments and responds to client questions and requests.

Requirements

• Valid Michigan Driver’s License.
• Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.

Responsibilities

• Drive a hospital vehicle on scheduled and unscheduled trips to pick up and deliver laboratory specimens, reports, and supplies.
• Follow specimen-handling and other procedures, schedules, checklists, and client-specific instructions to complete deliveries thoroughly and efficiently.
• Contact a Manager if a delivery or pickup is not completed.
• Assign priorities when multiple requests are received and report problems to a Manager or Section Leader for timely resolution.
• Complete pickups and deliveries for other hospital departments, including Materials Management, Radiology, Cardiology, and Urgent Care.
• Transport medical waste when asked.
• Answer client questions, accommodate requests where possible, or refer questions and requests to a Manager, Section Leader, or Client Representative.
