About The Position

The Courier Driver is responsible for accurate, timely, and safe pickup and delivery of supplies across the UH system, including internal and external locations. The role involves following established routes and schedules, safely handling and transporting hospital items, and providing professional, customer-friendly service in a fast-paced environment. Drivers track and document pickups and deliveries, scan barcodes, obtain signatures when required, and use a handheld device for delivery updates and GPS navigation. They load, scan, and organize supplies weighing up to 50 pounds; complete daily documentation; and maintain the vehicle’s appearance and operating condition, including daily fluid checks and basic safety inspections. The position also requires long periods of driving and working in all weather conditions, maintaining a good driving record, and meeting UH insurance-provider eligibility requirements to operate company vehicles. The role requires compliance with UH policies and standards, including requirements for protecting patients’ Protected Health Information (PHI).

Requirements

High school equivalent or GED.
At least 1 year of driving or courier experience.
Professional oral and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain a good driving record.
Ability to use PCs and general office equipment, such as printers, copy machines, and fax machines.
Valid Ohio driver's license, required upon hire.

Responsibilities

Pick up and deliver items from physician offices, clinics, and other internal and external locations.
Deliver hospital supplies and equipment—including specimens, supplies, medications, mail, instruments, and equipment—accurately, safely, and on time, following proper handling, storage, and transportation procedures and established routes and schedules.
Track and document pickups and deliveries, scan barcodes, obtain signatures when required, and update delivery statuses using a handheld device and GPS.
Load, scan, and organize supplies in the vehicle, including items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Complete and file daily documentation.
Maintain the vehicle’s operating and appearance condition, check fluid levels daily, and perform basic safety inspections of mechanical systems.
Report vehicle malfunctions or issues to management.
Sort and deliver reports, supplies, and other items to internal and external locations.
Provide professional, customer-friendly service, including in a fast-paced environment.
Maintain a good driving record and meet and sustain UH insurance-provider eligibility requirements to operate company vehicles.
Perform other duties as assigned and comply with applicable policies and standards.
Safely and securely maintain patient Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with annual training, the UH Code of Conduct, and UH policies and procedures.
