About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is hiring a compassionate veterinarian to provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets and their families in Elk Grove and surrounding communities in California. The role involves helping families navigate end-of-life decisions and providing care in the home, where pets feel safest. Visits are intentionally limited to a few appointments per day so the veterinarian can listen, explain options, and support families without the pace of a traditional clinic. The veterinarian practices independently while traveling to clients’ homes and receives onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and access to experienced colleagues. Schedules are self-managed, with options ranging from two to five days per week. The position offers guaranteed compensation based on schedule, quarterly bonus opportunities, and no non-compete agreement. Weekend work is arranged by choosing four weekend days per month.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent (DVM, VMD, or BVMS).
Valid U.S. driver’s license.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
Complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before the start date.

Responsibilities

Travel independently to serve clients in the listed metropolitan area.
