About The Position
Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking a compassionate veterinarian to provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets and families in Los Angeles, Torrance, Pasadena, Glendale, and Santa Monica, California. Care is delivered in pets’ homes, where veterinarians can take time to listen, answer questions, and help families say goodbye with dignity and peace. The role offers a slower-paced alternative to traditional clinic practice, with only a few appointments per day and no double-booking. Veterinarians practice independently on the road, with onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and experienced colleagues available for support. The organization emphasizes professional autonomy, well-being, and the absence of non-compete agreements. Schedule options include five-day full-time, four-day full-time, and two- or three-day full-time or self-managed part-time schedules. Compensation is prorated for schedules as applicable. The posting lists a $155,000 base salary for five-day full-time and starting compensation of $140,000 for four-day full-time, with quarterly bonus opportunities. Weekend work is scheduled by the veterinarian, who chooses four weekend days per month.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent (DVM, VMD, or BVMS).
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
- Complete license verification, a background check, and a driving-record review before the start date.
Responsibilities
- Provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets in their homes.
- Guide and support families through end-of-life decisions and goodbyes with compassion and dignity.
- Answer families’ questions and provide attentive care at an unhurried pace.
- Practice independently while traveling to appointments and draw on team support when needed.
