About The Position

The Honors College at Western Washington University maintains a vacancy pool of qualified persons interested in temporary teaching positions. These positions involve instructing in a variety of general education classes within the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Applications are accepted continuously, and positions may become available at any time during the academic year, typically for one course. Classes are small, with a maximum of 25 students. The Honors College is designed for students seeking an enhanced educational experience, with a significant number of students majoring in natural sciences. Students are expected to be actively involved in their classes, engage in writing or experimental work, and participate in research. Faculty are expected to introduce students to diverse approaches within their disciplines.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or other terminal degree in the faculty member’s discipline.
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the college or university level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to cultivating learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social identities and backgrounds.
  • Compliance with immunization policies, including Proof of Rubeola Measles Immunity within 60-days of hire.
  • Employment eligibility verification as required by the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Service.
  • Successful completion of a thorough background check, including a sexual misconduct background check.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct in a variety of general education classes in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
  • Introduce students to the widest possible variety of approaches to subject matter typical of their fields.
  • Be current in their disciplines.
  • Encourage student participation in their educations.
  • Demand writing or other work appropriate to the discipline.
  • Maintain rigorous academic standards.
  • Provide extensive commentary or other feedback on student work in a timely manner.
  • Be available to students through regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Have classes evaluated using standard university student evaluation forms and make those reviews available to the program.
