Home Performance Consultant — In-Home Energy Efficiency Sales

GreenSavers•Portland, OR
•$90,000 - $150,000•Onsite

About The Position

GreenSavers is hiring a Home Performance Consultant to help homeowners understand and select home comfort and energy-efficiency improvements. The role combines residential home assessments with consultative sales, guiding customers from the initial appointment through proposal preparation, contract signing, and handoff to the production team. Consultants visit residential jobsites and enter attics, crawl spaces, and other tight or uncomfortable areas to assess home conditions and prepare accurate estimates. GreenSavers provides leads; the consultant is expected to follow up, ask for the sale, build referrals, maintain an active pipeline, and work toward monthly sales targets while earning customer trust through clear recommendations and reliable follow-through. The consultant begins by shadowing experienced colleagues and gradually assumes more appointments. Success involves accurate assessments, timely proposals, responsive communication, complete production handoffs, and progress toward sales goals. The position is based in Portland, Oregon, reports to the Sales Manager, and includes travel to customers’ homes. Standard weekday business hours apply; evenings and weekends are generally not expected.

Requirements

  • Strong listening, relationship-building, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
  • Organization and follow-through to manage appointments, proposals, paperwork, and customer questions.

  • Comfort using digital tools and maintaining accurate customer and project records.
  • Respect for customers’ homes and for colleagues across sales, support, and production.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for customer visits.
  • Ability to regularly access attics and crawl spaces and work in residential jobsite conditions, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Sales experience in residential construction or HVAC is preferred.
  • Around three years of successful sales or customer service experience, in-home consultative sales, or familiarity with home energy efficiency would be helpful.

  • Meet homeowners, understand their priorities and budget, and conduct home energy consultations, audits, and estimates.
  • Work with sales support to prepare accurate reports and proposals, delivering proposals within three business days of the appointment.
  • Explain project scope, pricing, incentives, and financing; secure signed agreements and coordinate deposits or financing follow-up.
  • Keep customer records, project documentation, and the sales pipeline current.
  • Hand off complete project details to production and respond to questions through installation and any needed quality assurance.
  • Follow up on provided leads, ask for the sale, build referrals, and maintain an active sales pipeline.
  • Work toward monthly sales targets.
  • Travel to customers’ homes and assess residential jobsite conditions, including attics and crawl spaces.

  • $25,000 life insurance, AD&D, and an Employee Assistance Program included with medical enrollment.
  • 401(k) with a company match of up to 3.5%, subject to plan eligibility and vesting requirements.
  • Paid vacation that increases with tenure, six paid holidays, and paid sick time.
  • Paid required job-related training, including class time, and opportunities to build skills and take on more responsibility.
  • Dog-friendly offices, snacks and coffee, plus team gatherings and outings.
