About The Position

Performs clerical duties and technical work associated with medical record scanning. The HIM Scanning Specialist prepares, scans, indexes, validates, and quality-checks patient documentation so it is available in the electronic health record. The role requires accurate and timely work, sound judgment, attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining quality and productivity standards. The position involves working across multiple systems, including Epic, document imaging applications, and digital workflow tools such as Vyne. The specialist must adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment and use communication and problem-solving skills. This is an onsite role at UCHealth UCHlth Admin 2400 Peoria in Aurora, Colorado; hybrid and remote work are not offered. The schedule is full time, 80 hours per pay period, on the day shift. Pay is $19.10–$24.83 per hour, dependent on relevant experience.

Requirements

At least 1 year of experience in patient health information or medical records scanning.
Strong computer skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining quality, accuracy, productivity, and confidentiality standards.
Critical thinking skills and decisive judgment within the scope of the job.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt to changing priorities, and take appropriate action.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Ability to move frequently throughout patient care areas, including extended periods of walking and standing, and transport a workstation on wheels (WOW) as needed.

Nice To Haves

Training in Medical Terminology and Human Anatomy.
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

Responsibilities

Prepare, scan, and index medical records.
Audit scanned results for image quality and accuracy.
Assemble and maintain complete medical records.
Scan medical records accurately and in a timely manner.
Validate the accuracy of scanned documentation.
Perform quality review of patient documentation to ensure records are available in the electronic health record.
Work across systems including Epic, document imaging applications, and digital workflow tools such as Vyne.
