About The Position

This position is for a Permanent Highway Maintenance Worker 1 (HMW1) or Highway Technician 1 (HT1) in Guernsey County. This position is overtime eligible and requires a one-year probationary period for new hires. The final candidate will undergo a criminal background check and a urinalysis for illegal drug use. This position is subject to federal testing regulations, including the prohibition of marijuana use, even medical marijuana. Selected applicants must register as a driver in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. Sponsorship for employment visas is not available. The selected candidate will be placed in the classification for which they meet minimum qualifications. The role involves serving the public by making Ohio roads safer, performing highway maintenance activities, and participating in snow and ice operations. Training will be provided to obtain CDL licensure if not already held.

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Drivers License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions; ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in operation of basic equipment.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.

Responsibilities

  • Serve the public and work to make the roads in Ohio safer
  • Attend training to obtain CDL licensure; if not already a licensed CDL holder
  • Perform highway maintenance activities; including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, mowing
  • Perform snow & ice operations
