About The Position

Permanent Highway Maintenance Worker 1 (HMW1) or Highway Technician 1 (HT1). The selected candidate will be placed in the classification in which they meet minimum qualifications. This role serves the public by working to make the roads in Ohio safer. The position involves performing highway maintenance activities, including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing, as well as participating in snow and ice operations. Training will be provided to obtain CDL licensure if not already a licensed CDL holder.

Requirements

  • For Highway Maintenance Worker 1: Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • For Highway Technician 1: Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions; ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in operation of basic equipment.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • All bargaining unit new hires must serve a one (1) year probationary period.
  • The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check.
  • All final applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to appointments.
  • Selected applicants for this position are required to register as a driver in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.
