About The Position

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is seeking to hire Permanent Highway Maintenance Worker 1 (HMW1) or Highway Technician 1 (HT1) in Greene County. This is a full-time position where the selected candidates will be placed in the classification for which they meet the minimum qualifications. ODOT is responsible for building and maintaining Ohio's extensive interstate system and numerous bridges, ensuring safe and efficient roadways for residents and travelers. Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction.
  • Ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary.
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • For Highway Technician 1: Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions.
  • For Highway Technician 1: 3 months training or 3 months experience in operation of basic equipment.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.

Responsibilities

  • Serve the public and work to make the roads in Ohio safer.
  • Attend training to obtain CDL licensure if not already a licensed CDL holder.
  • Perform highway maintenance activities, including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing.
  • Perform snow & ice operations.
