About The Position

This position serves the public by working to make the roads in Ohio safer. The selected candidate will be placed in the classification in which they meet minimum qualifications. The role involves performing highway maintenance activities, including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing, as well as snow and ice operations. The position may start as a night position and is overtime eligible based on FLSA Standards. All bargaining unit new hires must serve a one (1) year probationary period. The final candidate selected will be required to undergo a criminal background check and urinalysis to test for illegal drug use. This position is also subject to federal testing regulations and requires registration as a driver in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. Medical marijuana is prohibited as a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test.

Requirements

  • For Highway Maintenance Worker 1: Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
  • For Highway Technician 1: Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions; ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in operation of basic equipment.
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • Job Skills: Highway Maintenance
  • Must register as a driver in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.

Responsibilities
