About The Position

The selected candidate will be placed in the classification in which they meet minimum qualifications. This role serves the public by working to make the roads in Ohio safer. The position is overtime eligible based on FLSA Standards. All bargaining unit new hires must serve a one (1) year probationary period. The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check and urinalysis to test for illegal drug use. This position is also subject to federal testing regulations which prohibit the use of marijuana, including medical marijuana. Medical marijuana is prohibited as a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test. Selected applicants are required to register as a driver in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. All candidates applying for employment opportunities should be authorized to work in the United States. Sponsorship for an employment visa is not currently available for positions with the Ohio Department of Transportation. Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Drivers License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions; ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in operation of basic equipment.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.

Nice To Haves

  • Already a licensed CDL holder.

Responsibilities

  • Serve the public and work to make the roads in Ohio safer.
  • Attend training to obtain CDL licensure; if not already a licensed CDL holder.
  • Perform highway maintenance activities; including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, mowing.
  • Perform snow & ice operations.
