About The Position

This position serves the public by working to make the roads in Ohio safer. The selected candidate will be placed in the classification in which they meet the minimum qualifications. Responsibilities include performing highway maintenance activities such as flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing. The role also involves performing snow and ice operations. The State of Ohio is a drug-free workplace and prohibits the use of marijuana. This position may be subject to additional restrictions per the State of Ohio Drug-Free Workplace Policy and federal testing regulations.

Requirements

  • For Highway Maintenance Worker 1: Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary. Must obtain Class B Commercial Drivers License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • For Highway Technician 1: Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions; ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in operation of basic equipment. Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • Must register as a driver in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.

Responsibilities

  • Serve the public and work to make the roads in Ohio safer.
  • Attend training to obtain CDL licensure if not already a licensed CDL holder.
  • Perform highway maintenance activities, including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing.
  • Perform snow & ice operations.
