About The Position

This position is for a Permanent Highway Maintenance Worker 1 (HMW1) or Highway Technician 1 (HT1) in Marion County. The selected candidate will be placed in the classification in which they meet minimum qualifications. The role involves serving the public by making Ohio roads safer through various maintenance activities. This position is overtime eligible and requires a probationary period. A criminal background check, drug test (including urinalysis for illegal drug use), and registration in the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse are mandatory. The State of Ohio is a drug-free workplace, prohibiting marijuana use. Sponsorship for employment visas is not available.

Requirements

  • For Highway Maintenance Worker 1: Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
  • For Highway Technician 1: Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions; ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in operation of basic equipment.
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Drivers License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.

Responsibilities

  • Serve the public and work to make the roads in Ohio safer.
  • Attend training to obtain CDL licensure; if not already a licensed CDL holder.
  • Perform highway maintenance activities; including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, mowing.
  • Perform snow & ice operations.
