About The Position
This position is for a Permanent Highway Maintenance Worker 1 (HMW1) or Highway Technician 1 (HT1) in Cuyahoga County, West Side. The selected candidate will be placed in the classification for which they meet the minimum qualifications. The role involves serving the public by working to make Ohio roads safer. Responsibilities include performing highway maintenance activities such as flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing, as well as performing snow and ice operations. The position is overtime eligible based on FLSA Standards and requires a one-year probationary period for new hires in the bargaining unit. The final candidate will undergo a criminal background check and urinalysis for illegal drug use, and must comply with federal testing regulations regarding drug and alcohol use, including prohibitions on marijuana. Registration in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse is also required.
Requirements
- Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
- Must obtain Class B Commercial Drivers License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
- Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions; ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in operation of basic equipment.
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
Responsibilities
- Serve the public and work to make the roads in Ohio safer.
- Attend training to obtain CDL licensure; if not already a licensed CDL holder.
- Perform highway maintenance activities; including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, mowing.
- Perform snow & ice operations.
