About The Position

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is seeking to hire a Highway Maintenance Worker 1 (HMW1) or Highway Technician 1 (HT1) for District 4 in Summit County. This role is crucial for maintaining the safety and efficiency of Ohio's roadways. ODOT is committed to being a model employer for individuals with disabilities and maintains a drug-free workplace. This position is overtime eligible and requires a probationary period for new hires. The selected candidate will undergo a criminal background check and drug testing, including urinalysis, and must comply with federal drug and alcohol testing regulations for commercial drivers. Selected applicants will also be required to register in the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary (for HMW1).
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions; ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in operation of basic equipment (for HT1).
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.

Responsibilities

  • Serve the public and work to make the roads in Ohio safer.
  • Attend training to obtain CDL licensure (if not already licensed).
  • Perform highway maintenance activities, including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing.
  • Perform snow and ice operations.
