About The Position
This position is for a Permanent Highway Maintenance Worker 1 (HMW1) or Highway Technician 1 (HT1) in Mahoning County, Ohio. The selected candidate will be placed in the classification for which they meet the minimum qualifications. The role involves serving the public by making Ohio roads safer. Responsibilities include performing highway maintenance activities such as flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing. The position also includes performing snow and ice operations. Training will be provided to obtain CDL licensure if the candidate is not already a licensed CDL holder. This position is overtime eligible and requires a one-year probationary period for bargaining unit new hires. A criminal background check and urinalysis for illegal drug use will be conducted on the final candidate. The position is subject to federal testing regulations and requires registration in the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. Marijuana use, including medical marijuana, is prohibited.
Requirements
- Highway Maintenance Worker 1: Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary. Must obtain Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
- Highway Technician 1: Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions; ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in operation of basic equipment. Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
