About The Position

This position involves serving the public by working to make the roads in Ohio safer. The role requires attending training to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) if not already licensed, and performing various highway maintenance activities. These activities include flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, mowing, and participating in snow and ice operations. Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary (for Highway Maintenance Worker 1)
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement and without airbrake restriction within six (6) months of permanent hire date (for Highway Maintenance Worker 1)
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions; & ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary; & 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in operation of basic equipment (for Highway Technician 1)
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement and without airbrake restriction (for Highway Technician 1)
  • All candidates applying for employment opportunities should be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Applicants applying for CDL positions must provide their employment history for the ten (10) years preceding the date the employment application is submitted to ODOT.
