About The Position

This position serves the public by working to make the roads in Ohio safer. The selected candidate will be placed in the classification in which they meet minimum qualifications. This position could start as a night position and is overtime eligible based on FLSA Standards. All bargaining unit new hires must serve a one (1) year probationary period. The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check, and may be subject to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use. This position is also subject to federal testing regulations which prohibit the use of marijuana, including medical marijuana. Selected applicants are required to register as a driver in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.

Requirements

  • Highway Maintenance Worker 1: Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • Highway Technician 1: Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions; ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary; 3 months training or 3 months experience in operation of basic equipment.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.

Responsibilities

  • Serve the public and work to make the roads in Ohio safer.
  • Attend training to obtain CDL licensure; if not already a licensed CDL holder.
  • Perform highway maintenance activities; including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, mowing.
  • Perform snow & ice operations.
