About The Position

Seeking a Hematology Physician or Oncology Physician to support the Veteran community in the Fresno, CA area. This position is open to all candidates, including Locum or Traveling professionals. The role involves direct patient care (estimated 90% of the time) in critical/acute care settings, including assessing, stabilizing, and determining the disposition of inpatients with emergent conditions. Responsibilities include discussing end-of-life preferences, advanced care planning, consulting with sub-specialists, discharge planning, care coordination, and ensuring appropriate follow-up. Physicians will also run code teams and rapid response teams. Non-direct patient care activities account for an estimated 5% of the time.

Requirements

Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship.
Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
Board Certified /Board Eligible.
Basic Life Support (BLS).
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Nice To Haves

Previous experience with the VA is a plus.

Responsibilities

Provide care to patients in critical/acute care settings in conformance with VA policies.
Assess, stabilize, and determine the disposition of inpatients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services.
Discuss end-of-life preferences/advanced care planning.
Consult with sub-specialists.
Timely and proactive discharge planning.
Coordination of care with the primary care physician.
Discharge, including ensuring appropriate follow-up is arranged, perioperative care.
Run code teams and rapid response teams.
Perform procedures such as abscess incision and drainage, and removal of lines and tubes.
