About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment at a recycling facility, landfill, or transfer station. The work includes transferring, spreading, covering, loading, and/or compacting waste or soil efficiently and safely. This is a second-shift role.

Requirements

• Two years of prior related experience in heavy equipment operation.
• One year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
• Good customer service skills; acts professionally, courteously, and cooperatively toward customers and co-workers, with honesty and trustworthiness.
• Good time-management skills to complete assigned responsibilities efficiently and safely.
• Ability to follow through, adhere to the work schedule, and address challenges as they arise.
• Ability to adhere to company policies and rules, promote safety standards, and avoid inappropriate risks.
• Pride in work and a commitment to achieving goals.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre- and post-operation equipment inspections in accordance with company policy, ensuring windows, lights, mirrors, and rear-view cameras are clean.
• Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders, using proper safety standards.
• Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
• Monitor equipment condition to ensure it remains operational and minimize downtime; clean tracks or wheels as needed.
• Perform and document minor equipment service, referring more complicated mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop.
• Complete Equipment Condition Reports and other necessary reports, and report needed repairs to a supervisor.
• Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
• Ensure the shop is clean, serviced, and stored at the completion of each shift.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
