About The Position

Rumpke is a family-owned waste and recycling company providing essential services to residents, businesses, and communities. Heavy Equipment Operators safely operate equipment to spread, compact, and load commercial and residential municipal solid waste or recyclable materials. They may also perform earth-moving work, including excavating, grading, backfilling, leveling, and moving soil, rock, and other materials for construction, landfill, or site-development projects. The position is scheduled Monday through Friday, 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. Operators work with a range of equipment and are expected to monitor equipment and surroundings, follow applicable regulations and company policies, and communicate professionally. This role does not manage employees.

Requirements

Proficiency operating heavy equipment.
Ability to successfully complete training on other landfill equipment as necessary.
Dependability, self-motivation, and ability to identify and perform daily operational requirements.
Good communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
Ability to maneuver equipment through tight driving areas with heavy equipment, vehicle, and/or pedestrian traffic.
Ability to read and speak English well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training.
Minimum of 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment such as an excavator, backhoe, dozer, and off-road truck, or similar experience preferred.
Must pass a written and operational test to be certified to operate each piece of heavy equipment.
For Boyd-specific duties, must complete hazardous-waste management training within six months of employment or assignment to those duties and complete an annual review of the initial training.
Legally eligible to work in the United States.
Valid driver's license, if applicable.
Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.

Responsibilities

Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment, including bulldozers, graders, excavators, backhoes, front-end loaders, wheel loaders, off-road dump trucks, and other equipment as required.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections and complete necessary documentation.
Perform routine equipment maintenance, including lubricating, fueling, and cleaning equipment.
Operate equipment for site preparation, earth moving, landscaping, snow removal, and related assignments.
Monitor equipment for proper operation and minimal downtime while remaining aware of surroundings.
Interact professionally with internal and external customers.
Clean waste from equipment bodies, cabs, and wheels throughout the day.
Perform on-site roll-off work to switch trash compactors as needed.
Operate the on-site yard tractor to move and stage trailers as needed.
For Boyd-specific duties, manage hazardous waste safely without damaging its tanks or containers or endangering personnel or equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
