Health Unit Coordinator - Progressive Care Unit
About The Position
Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital is a 148-bed community hospital serving Medina County and surrounding communities. The 2 North Progressive Care Unit specializes in caring for cardiac and neurological patients who require close monitoring and advanced nursing interventions. It provides intermediate care between intensive care and general medical-surgical care. The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) provides customer service to patients, families, visitors, and caregivers to support positive patient experiences. The role relieves nurses of administrative and clerical tasks so they can focus on patient care. It also offers opportunities for further education, committee participation, and advancement on the clinical ladder. This position works evenings from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- One year of experience in a customer service-related role.
- Experience with typing, computer training, or equivalent coursework.
Nice To Haves
- College degree.
- Microsoft Office experience.
Responsibilities
- Greet, welcome, and orient newly admitted and transferred patients to the unit in person.
- Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.
- Communicate with patients, families, other departments, and healthcare team members about patient care, and facilitate communication among them.
- Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Help patients and families with wayfinding and direct them to available resources.
- Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
- Assist with unit clerical functions and troubleshoot equipment failures involving the call system, portable phones, WOWs, and other unit devices.
