About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), also referred to as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), provides hands-on care to patients in the hospital’s Progressive Care Unit (PCU). Patients may be recovering from surgery, managing chronic or acute illnesses, or undergoing diagnostic procedures. The LPN works alongside registered nurses, physicians, and other healthcare team members, focusing on assisting with patient care and ensuring patient comfort and safety. The role works under the supervision of other nurses and reports patient-care issues to them.

This is a full-time, day-shift position at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Alabama, with 12-hour shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is available for qualified candidates; eligibility and payout terms apply and are discussed during the interview process.

Requirements

• Current and valid Alabama state license as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
• Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire.
• Maintain current IV certification upon hire (state specific).

Nice To Haves

• One year of experience in an applicable setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and record vital signs, observe for symptoms of cardiac distress, and report telemetry changes to nurses or physicians.
• Administer oral and injectable cardiac medications and monitor for side effects such as hypotension or electrolyte imbalances.
• Assist with pre- and post-operative cardiac procedures, prepare patients for diagnostic tests, and support recovery from cardiac events.
• Educate patients about cardiac diets, medications, and fluid restrictions, and communicate clearly with families and care teams.
• Accurately document patient care activities and observations in the electronic health record system.
• Work under the supervision of other nurses and report patient-care issues to them.
