About The Position

Fairview is hiring a Health Unit Coordinator for the Emergency Department at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minnesota. The position is scheduled for 48 hours every two weeks, with 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and work every third weekend. It is eligible for benefits. The Emergency Department is a 44-bed Level 3 Trauma Center that treats more than 55,000 patients annually. The hospital is also a Cardiac Center of Excellence and a Comprehensive Stroke Center. The department's team includes Emergency Physicians, Registered Nurses, ER Techs, Health Unit Coordinators, Mental Health Providers, Pharmacists, and Case Managers. The Health Unit Coordinator supports the fast-paced Emergency Department by facilitating communication, coordinating patient flow, and helping ensure smooth unit operations. The coordinator serves as a point of contact for providers, patients, and family members; answers phone calls, relays information, and assists with patient transfers to other facilities. The role collaborates with nurses, physicians, and multidisciplinary staff, maintains accurate documentation, and manages data flow within the department and between hospital units. Professionalism, empathy, organization, attention to detail, multitasking, and effective communication support timely, coordinated, and compassionate emergency care.

Requirements

At least 1 year of customer service experience.

Nice To Haves

2 or more years of customer service experience.
Previous Health Unit Coordinator, administrative, or hospitality industry experience.

Responsibilities

Ensure an outstanding patient and guest experience.
Coordinate unit activities to support patient care staff.
Manage medical records and data flow within the unit to support safe patient care processes.
Fulfill physician orders.
Answer phone calls, relay information, and assist with patient transfers to other facilities.
