About The Position

Unit Technicians assist with patient care to support the nursing practice of the unit under the direction of a registered nurse and/or licensed medical professional. They carry out designated activities that are within the functions limited by law to unlicensed nursing personnel. In the emergency department, the technician collaborates with nursing staff and consultants/providers when patient parameters are abnormal or critical, identifies and activates medical emergency response plans, and performs assigned duties such as procuring and applying a Lucas device. The ED Technician also performs ECGs and splinting, along with other duties as assigned under the direction of licensed medical personnel.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years old and have completed 12 college credits, or have a high school diploma/GED and successfully completed Nursing Assistant training or equivalent.
Basic computer knowledge and skills.
Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Excellent organizational, communication, writing, and listening skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team setting and be flexible.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
BLS certification must be successfully completed before the first day in patient care; it is included in the orientation program.

Responsibilities

Perform other duties as assigned in the emergency department under the direction of licensed medical personnel.
