About The Position

As a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), you will provide customer service to patients, families, and visitors while using administrative and clerical skills to support efficient department operations and enable caregivers to provide patient care.

The position is part of Cleveland Clinic Children’s M33 Pediatric Unit, a fast-paced medical-surgical unit specializing in post-surgical care. The unit manages a high volume of gastrointestinal surgical cases, as well as appendectomy, post-transplant, and infectious disease patients. M33 provides a collaborative and supportive environment focused on high-quality, family-centered care for children and their families.

This is a full-time, day-shift position scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The role requires frequent data entry and extensive standing and walking, along with some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids. Standard precautions and required personal protective equipment are used.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of experience in a customer service-related role.
• Experience with typing, computer training, or equivalent coursework.

Nice To Haves

• College degree.
• Microsoft Office experience.

Responsibilities

• Greet, welcome, and orient newly admitted and transferred patients to the unit in person.
• Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.
• Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Help patients and families find their way and direct them to available resources.
• Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
• Assist with unit clerical functions and troubleshoot equipment failures involving the call system, portable phones, WOWs, and other unit devices.
