About The Position

This is a Health Support Technician position in the School Health program providing assessment of student health needs, referrals for services, and liaisons between schools, parents, and the School Health LPNs. Reports directly to the Community Health Nursing Consultant and assists the School Health LPNs within the Department of Health (DOH) School Health program. Communicates daily with the SH team on day-to-day work duties. Reviews and updates health profiles on children to include: the Florida DH 680 forms and student physicals. Notifies school personnel as needed of changes that need to be made within the school FOCUS system. Informs parents when their student is out of compliance for enrollment requirements by phone or letter. Establishes and maintains effective communication and relationships with, School District of Osceola County, school health staff to ensure quality school health services. Serves as resource person for teachers, health aides, students and parents. Coordinates screening and surveillance activities within the schools. Ensures timely communication of planned screenings and works with school staff in planning and implementing screenings as appropriate. Assists with referrals of individuals and families to appropriate local and state agencies. Contacts private/charter schools yearly regarding mandatory screening services available and required enrollment documents. Completes statistical reports and assists DOH School Health LPN’s and documents as needed. Assists with data collection for the, School Health Services Plan, Compulsory Report, Annual School Health Service Report, Biennial School Health Services Plan, Kindergarten and Seventh Grade Assessment and Validation Report. Prepares and participates in School Health audit and back to school events. Plans and participates in health promotion and disease prevention programs related to school children, school personnel and the community. Assists with development of educational and training material as appropriate. Maintains record of daily activities and work performed. Performs other related duties as required. Responsible for timely submission of timesheets and EARs and certification. Required to attend all staff meetings, monthly School Health conference calls and one-on-ones. Completes mandatory trainings as deemed necessary. Provides advanced notice for time requests (2 weeks) unless an emergency. Information Custodian responsibilities include maintaining information in accordance with state and federal statutes, rules, regulations, and Department of Health Security Policy 3 and associated Protocols and Procedures as it relates to Information Custodian, Delegation of Authority. This responsibility is to be adhered to 100% of the time.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability to provide direct patient care and treatment.
  • Ability to work with patients having a variety of physical problems.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Skill in the use of medical equipment and instruments used in the clinic.
  • At least six months of verifiable medical front office, medical records, administrative assistant, or medical assistant experience, in a Public Health setting, Pediatric Office, Primary Care, Acute Care, Home health or School Health setting.
  • Experience includes assisting clinicians, organizing daily workflows, assisting patients upon arrival and discharge, making appointments, and filing and charting medical visits.
  • Willing to perform emergency duties before, during and/or beyond normal business hours and/or day in the event of an emergency, disaster, or threat of disaster man-made or natural.
  • A valid Driver’s license.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
  • Willing to physically come into the office daily and perform field work.
  • Ability to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with school-aged children in one of the previously mentioned work environments.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or Creole and can fluently speak, read, and write both languages.
  • Experience with the FL Shots registry.
  • Experience completing DH680 forms related to vaccine records.
