Eligibility requirements and more details found on our College to County website. What Does the Health Officer Division Do? The Health Officer oversees the Emergency Medical System (911 calls and responses), Medical Examiner’s Office (that does death investigations into cause and manner of death for anyone who dies outside a hospital), the Public Health Emergency Preparedness team (that prepares for disasters and emergencies, and includes the Medical Reserve Corps of medical providers to respond to those emergencies), and the Tri-County Health Officer team (made up of the health officer and deputy health officer at the Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington county health departments). The Health Officer and Deputy Health Officer are clinical consultants on medical issues that arise in public health, and also provide technical advice on public health interventions county-wide. Internship Description & Responsibilities: Learn about the role of public health in helping foster and empower people to live healthier and more resilient lives Work directly with the Health Officers and their team on projects that involve public health emergency preparedness and response, emerging public health threats, public health messaging, and opioid use disorder pilot research Bring an equity lens to the work of public health emergency preparedness and response Help contextualize the concept of the Academic Health Department as we work to involve learners in greater public health efforts Help research and develop talking points for the Health Officer to convey to the public when disasters or emergencies may occur Learning Outcomes: Connect to key staff who can help deepen your understanding of public service.
