About The Position

This role involves providing direct care to sick and injured students and staff within a school setting, acting as a health advocate, and managing various health-related administrative tasks. The position requires adherence to district policies, state regulations, and effective communication with parents, medical professionals, and school administration.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited nursing education program preferred (LVN/RN)
Valid license to practice nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners
CPR Certification from American Heart Association
Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to implement policies and procedures
Two years nursing experience, preferably in community health

Responsibilities

Provide care for sick and injured students or staff according to district policy and procedures.
Serve as a health advocate for students.
Notify parents of accident or illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases.
Administer medications according to district policy and procedures.
Perform screening procedures as required by Texas Department of Health, TEA, and district policy.
Make referrals as necessary.
Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students.
Serve as a health liaison between school, physicians, parents, and community.
Assess student problems and make appropriate referrals.
Participate in ARD Committee, crisis team, and school committees.
Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
Communicate regularly with the principal and health services coordinator regarding health services issues.
Review and evaluate immunization records.
Enforce procedures to ensure proper program administration according to district policy.
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic records and accurate, updated health records on all students.
Requisition supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic inventory.
Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, State BOE rule, and board policy in the health services area.
Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
