About The Position

This role involves providing direct care to sick and injured students and staff within a school setting, acting as a health advocate, and managing various health-related administrative tasks. The position requires adherence to district policies, state regulations, and effective communication with parents, medical professionals, and school administration.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing education program preferred (LVN/RN)
  • Valid license to practice nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners
  • CPR Certification from American Heart Association
  • Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to implement policies and procedures
  • Two years nursing experience, preferably in community health

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for sick and injured students or staff according to district policy and procedures.
  • Serve as a health advocate for students.
  • Notify parents of accident or illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases.
  • Administer medications according to district policy and procedures.
  • Perform screening procedures as required by Texas Department of Health, TEA, and district policy.
  • Make referrals as necessary.
  • Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students.
  • Serve as a health liaison between school, physicians, parents, and community.
  • Assess student problems and make appropriate referrals.
  • Participate in ARD Committee, crisis team, and school committees.
  • Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
  • Communicate regularly with the principal and health services coordinator regarding health services issues.
  • Review and evaluate immunization records.
  • Enforce procedures to ensure proper program administration according to district policy.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic records and accurate, updated health records on all students.
  • Requisition supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic inventory.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, State BOE rule, and board policy in the health services area.
  • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
