About The Position

The Head Softball Coach at Southwest High School, under the Little Rock School District and Athletic Department, is responsible for establishing and maintaining goals and objectives to build a competitive softball program. This coaching position is part of a 9.25-month teacher contract (190 days) and includes a stipend and benefit package. The role requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree, a valid Arkansas teacher's license, and meeting state and AAA requirements for coaching endorsements. The coach must demonstrate a strong commitment to quality education, possess enhanced knowledge of coaching techniques, and understand Arkansas Activities Association (AAA Handbook) rules. The position involves instructing and supervising student athletes, developing academic programs for NCAA eligibility, and ensuring adherence to all district and AAA regulations. Requirements

  • Demonstrate the ability to instruct and supervise student athletes.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of three years of experience as a head varsity coach preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and at the times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and – in harmony with the goals – establishes clearly objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strives to implement, by instruction and action, the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life, and for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in a fair and just manner.
  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in sport involved.
  • Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports on out-of-town trips.
  • Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
  • Develop an academic program for student-athlete for NCAA Clearinghouse scholarship eligibility and ACT preparation.
  • Maintains, files, and copies all pertinent LRSD/AAA materials, eligibility forms, transfer forms, grade reports, and ensures the LRSD/AAA guidelines are followed.
  • Adheres to District, State and Arkansas Activities Association’s regulations regarding eligibility of players.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
