About The Position

The Softball Head Coach will be responsible for organizing, conducting, and supervising all aspects of the intercollegiate softball program. This includes skill instruction, practices, student-athlete strength and conditioning, competition scheduling, preparation, and coaching. The coach will also provide leadership and supervision regarding the academic progress of student-athletes, adhere to all university, conference, and NCAA rules, and manage budgets, equipment, and travel. Additionally, the role involves recruiting prospective student-athletes, building relationships with alumni and donors, overseeing assistant coaches, and representing the Department of Athletics at various functions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree
• Three years of softball coaching experience
• Proven ability to train and recruit at the Division I collegiate level
• Ability to accept and carry out assigned program and responsibilities
• Ability to communicate effectively and work well with students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community
• Ability to pass the NCAA recruiting test and have a thorough understanding of NCAA rules and regulations
• Ability to work collaboratively within the structure and framework of an athletics department and university
• Ability to confidently and competently lead training sessions for the program
• A demonstrated commitment to high academic standards for student-athletes and their ability to succeed both academically and athletically
• A demonstrated commitment to building a positive team culture

Responsibilities

• Organizing, conducting, and supervising all aspects of the intercollegiate softball program to include skill instruction; practices; student-athlete strength & conditioning; competition scheduling; competition preparation and competition day coaching; and participation within designated conference and NCAA meetings
• Providing appropriate leadership, direction, and supervision relevant to the academic progress of student-athletes within the softball program
• Adhering to all university, conference, and NCAA rules and requirements relevant to the overall conduct of the intercollegiate softball program
• Preparing designated information relevant to budgets, equipment needs, travel advances/reconciliations, prospective student-athlete recruitment records, and other program areas; working with development staff to establish relationships with alumni and other friends of the program and to identify potential donors to the program
• Overseeing and assigning responsibilities to the Softball Assistant Coaches, supervising all aspects of their work performance, and conducting performance evaluations; actively recruiting and supervising volunteer coaches to work with various events not assigned to other coaches
• Representing the Department of Athletics and the field hockey program at specified university, department, media, and community functions and events
