Head of Infrastructure

Function Health•Canada, KS

About The Position

Function Health is hiring a hands-on Head of Infrastructure within Engineering, Product & Data (EPD), reporting to the Sr. Director of Engineering. The role owns Site Reliability Engineering and the infrastructure platform—including databases, compute, containers, networking, and cross-service and VPC communication—across Function Health, Ezra, Suppco, and Getlabs. The leader will design the long-term infrastructure architecture for the company's growth and international expansion, including multi-region deployment, data residency, latency, and compliance boundaries. They will establish reliability and cost standards, including SLOs, on-call practices, and incident response, to support a growing member base and multiple businesses on the platform. This is a leadership role that combines team direction with hands-on technical work. The Head of Infrastructure will lead and grow the Infrastructure team while participating in design reviews, architecture decisions, infrastructure and deployment trade-offs, and critical incidents. They will also partner with EPD, Security, Clinical/Compliance stakeholders, and executives.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in infrastructure, SRE, or platform engineering, including at least 3 years leading teams.
  • A track record of progression from hands-on engineering to technical leadership.
  • Experience scaling a platform through a major growth stage, such as a multiple-fold increase in users, traffic, or services.
  • Deep expertise in cloud infrastructure, containers and orchestration, networking (including VPC design and cross-service communication), and production database operations.
  • Experience designing for multi-region deployment, data residency, or other compliance-driven architecture; has shipped or led a multi-region or regulated-data design.
  • Experience defining and operating reliability programs, including SLOs, on-call rotations, incident command, and blameless postmortems.
  • Ability to explain trade-offs among reliability, speed, cost, and security to engineers and executives.
  • Hands-on technical credibility, including the ability to review designs and debug production systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in healthcare, health technology, or other regulated environments, including HIPAA, SOC 2, or international privacy regimes.
  • Experience integrating infrastructure across acquired companies or multiple business units.
  • Familiarity with FinOps practices and tooling.
  • Interest in leading AI and developer productivity, including AI tooling and enablement across EPD and DevX tooling toward an agentic-first Software Factory.

Responsibilities

  • Own the infrastructure platform end to end, leading SRE and infrastructure across Function Health, Ezra, Suppco, and Getlabs.
  • Design and drive long-term infrastructure architecture for international expansion, including multi-region topology, data residency, latency, and compliance boundaries.
  • Establish and enforce reliability standards, including SLOs, error budgets, on-call practices, incident response, and postmortem processes.
  • Improve infrastructure cost visibility and efficiency; make build, buy, and consolidation decisions and manage unit costs as usage grows.
  • Align infrastructure practices, tooling, and networking across acquired companies while reducing duplication and risk and preserving delivery speed.
  • Hire, coach, and set direction for infrastructure and SRE engineers while remaining hands-on in design reviews, architecture decisions, and critical incidents.
  • Partner with engineering and product leaders, Security, and Clinical/Compliance stakeholders on infrastructure, deployment, and regulatory trade-offs.
  • Work with executives on infrastructure roadmap, investment, and risk.
