About The Position

The Hatchery Worker position is responsible for various tasks related to chick hatching and hatchery maintenance. This includes preparing vaccines, monitoring chick counters, verifying hatch numbers, and cleaning and sanitizing equipment and facilities. The role requires physical stamina to lift and move heavy items, work in a dusty environment, and adhere to strict biosecurity and safety rules. Occasional overtime and holiday work may be required.

Requirements

  • Must be able to lift baskets weighing 25 lbs. to a height of more than 80 inches.
  • Must be able to push/pull carts weighing in excess of 1,000 lbs. on rollers.
  • Must abide by all biosecurity rules and not own a flock of poultry (unless Tyson flock).
  • Must be able to work in a dusty environment.
  • Must be able to work well with others, without supervision.
  • Must abide by all departmental safety rules.
  • Must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Mix correct dosage of New Castle bronchitis vaccine prior to the beginning of chick run.
  • Keep vaccine bags at adequate levels to assure all chicks are receiving the vaccine.
  • Make a random physical count of chicks in baskets to assure accuracy of machine counters.
  • Check between 5-20 baskets on each line throughout the day and record this number on the counter reconciliation and injury report sheet.
  • Compare actual hatched and percentage on the daily hatch sheet at each flock change.
  • Verify the actual number hatched after the run is complete and complete the daily sheet, then turn it in to the supervisor.
  • Clean and sanitize counters and conveyor system.
  • Wash overhead fans and ventilation ducts.
  • Wash and clean the floor.
