About The Position

The Hardware Technician supports critical hardware infrastructure within an enterprise data center environment. This hands-on, on-site role in Lake Forest, Illinois focuses on installing and maintaining servers, storage, networking equipment, and cabling, as well as troubleshooting issues and managing the equipment lifecycle. The position also involves occasional travel to a co-location site in Elk Grove Village. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 7 PM. Initial training lasts one to two weeks and runs from 8 AM to 5 PM. The technician participates in an on-call rotation one week per month, receiving a $100 stipend plus pay for hours worked. The posting describes the role as full-time and permanent.

Requirements

Understand data center infrastructure, including servers, switches, firewalls, and routers.
Have strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Have experience documenting and tracking IT assets and hardware.
Communicate clearly and collaborate across teams.
Be comfortable climbing ladders and lifting up to 50 pounds with a team lift.
Have at least one year of experience with structured cabling (copper and fiber) and cable testing.
Be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; visa sponsorship or transfer is not available.

Nice To Haves

Certifications are a plus but are not required.
Enterprise environment experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Install, rack, and maintain data center hardware, including servers, storage, and networking equipment.
Perform rack-and-stack work, cable management, and structured cabling using fiber and copper.
Troubleshoot connectivity and hardware issues.
Manage inventory, asset tracking, and equipment documentation.
Ship and receive hardware and maintain accurate records.
Work within a multi-team ticketing environment.
Travel occasionally between the Lake Forest Data Center and the Elk Grove Village co-location site.
