About The Position

The iPad hardware team in Austin, Texas is seeking a Signal Integrity Engineer to apply signal-integrity expertise to system-level integration, with an emphasis on designing and debugging high-speed interfaces. The role works collaboratively with technology and module teams as part of a system electrical engineering group responsible for products from concept through shipment. Cross-functional partners include mechanical, software, silicon, wireless, battery, camera, sensing, display, and factory test teams. The position calls for strong signal-integrity knowledge and hands-on experience in both laboratory work and simulation. The engineer will apply electromagnetics and transmission-line theory, extract channel models, and simulate EMI and crosstalk across channel elements such as rigid and flex PCBs, connectors, and other mobile-system components. The team values curiosity, creativity, integrity, leadership, collaboration, and a passion for learning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Hands-on experience with board-level hardware testing and validation.
  • Hands-on experience using lab equipment such as TDRs, VNAs, oscilloscopes, near-field scanners, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Hands-on experience with electromagnetic and circuit simulation tools, such as Ansys HFSS/Maxwell/SIwave, CST, ADS/SPICE/Spectre, or Cadence Sigrity.
  • Experience with scripting languages.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong background in signal integrity, with understanding of electromagnetics and transmission-line theory.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with at least 5 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Deep knowledge of system-level high-speed SerDes design and analysis, including transmitter and receiver equalization methods (FFE, CTLE, DFE), CDR behavior and modeling, link-training algorithms, and eye-margining tools.
  • Experience performing physical-layer compliance testing of PCIe, USB, DisplayPort, and Thunderbolt interfaces.
  • Strong EE fundamentals and a background in mobile system engineering, including schematic capture and rigid/flex PCB layout.
  • Ability to analyze solutions and make system design trade-offs.
  • Understanding of design and validation requirements for common interfaces such as I2C, SPI, JTAG, and I2S, and high-speed interfaces such as USB, MIPI, PCIe, HDMI, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt, DDR, and Ethernet.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand technology and debug problems at varying levels of abstraction, from system level to silicon/transistor level.

Responsibilities

  • Influence system-level integration, emphasizing the design and debug of high-speed interfaces.
  • Perform signal-integrity work involving channel-model extraction and simulation of EMI and crosstalk.
  • Work with channel elements including rigid and flex PCBs, connectors, and other components in a mobile system.
  • Collaborate with technology, module, and cross-functional engineering teams.
